Free early childhood education and care

Kindergarten, day care and early childhood education is free for children aged 3 to 5 years.

Eligible institutions: Kindergartens, day care centers, and centers for early childhood education & care.

Eligible children

3-5 years: Free-of-charge for all children of this age.

*For kindergartens that are not under the new system of support for children and child-raising, up to 25,700 yen monthly is reimbursed.

0-2 years: Free-of-charge for households with exemptions from municipal residence tax due to low income (hikazei setai).
