Health checkups

  • Cost: Free
  • Content: Simple checks for diabetes, high blood pressure and other lifestyle-related conditions
  • What to bring: The health checkup coupons (in Japanese "jyushin ken", 受診券) that were sent in April
  • Location: Any of the 200 designated medical facilities in the city, your local Health Center, city-run community centers, etc.

More detailed information can be found in the brochure called "kenko zukuri" (健康づくり) which was mailed together with the health checkup coupons.

Complete physical screenings (ningen dokku)

People who wish to undergo a complete physical screening are eligible for part of the cost to be subsidized by NHI. In addition to basic checks for lifestyle-related conditions, a complete physical screening consists of specific cancer testing and other more in depth checks at the same time. To be eligible, you must make an application in advance.

  • Application period: Monday, May 1 - Thursday, December 28, 2023
  • Period for undergoing screening: Monday, May 15, 2023 - end of February 2024 (exact dates vary by medical institution)
  • Place to submit application: 1st floor of City Hall at the Insurance & Pension Division, or at the Citizens Welfare Division of city branch offices.

For NHI members

  • Eligibility: NHI members living in Takasaki who are between 30 and 74 years of age and are up-to-date on their health insurance payments
  • What to bring: NHI insurance card, special health checkup coupons* (those aged 40-74 only)

*Special health checkup coupons are for a separate health checkup, and are sent to eligible people in April. In Japanese they are called "tokutei kenshin jyushin ken" (特定健診受診). People who choose to undergo the complete physical screening become ineligible for the special health checkup, as some of the contents are the same.

For Gunma Latter-stage Elderly Healthcare System members

  • Eligibility: People who live in Takasaki and have paid all of their latter-stage elderly healthcare system payments. People who are 74 should be turning 75 by the date of their complete physical screening.
  • What to bring: Latter-stage Elderly Healthcare card, Latter-stage Elderly Healthcare coupons*

*Latter-stage Elderly Healthcare coupons are for a separate health checkup, and are sent to people aged 75 and over in April. In Japanese they are called "koki korei-sha kenshin jyushin ken" (後期高齢者健診受診券).
