This announcement affects the National Health Insurance & Latter-stage Elderly Healthcare schemes.
Per changes to the law, the health insurance systems are switching to use the My Number Cards that have been registered as health insurance cards when receiving treatment at a medical facility. This will begin on Monday, December 2nd. Currently used health insurance cards will no longer be issued after December 1st, and will only remain valid until the date printed on the card.
Takasaki will send notices in the mail to residents after December 2nd. Different people will receive different notices depending on which is applicable to them.
For those whose health insurance cards will have expired or need to be reissued, they will receive one of two notices depending on whether or not they have a My Number card. The content is either a confirmation of eligibility (shikaku kakunin-sho, 資格確認書) or a notice of eligibility information (shikaku joho no oshirase, 資格情報のお知らせ).
However, the confirmation of eligibility (shikaku kakunin-sho, 資格確認書) will be sent to those enrolled in the Latter-Stage Elderly Healthcare scheme until the annual renewal in August 2025 regardless if they have a My Number card or not.
*Caution: For foreign residents of Takasaki who are in the process of renewing their residence cards, the city will mail out the applicable notice after confirming that the residence card has been renewed. If there is a need to visit a medical facility before the new residence card is ready, they will need to bring their residence card to city hall and show the stamp that proves their renewal is currently processing. This can be done at counter 9 on the first floor.
The confirmation of eligibility (shikaku kakunin-sho, 資格確認書) will be sent in the mail. Please bring that when you receive medical attention, as it will allow you to continue going to clinics and hospitals after December 2nd.
The notice of eligibility information (shikaku joho no oshirase, 資格情報のお知らせ) will be sent in the mail. Personal information about the cardholder is written on it. By showing this at a reception desk along with the My Number health insurance card, you will still be able to receive medical treatment even if there are issues preventing you from using the My Number card itself, such as from technical problems with the card reader.
