Paying Car Tax

The bill for every type of vehicle tax will soon be mailed out; the deadline to pay is Monday, June 2nd.

Light vehicle tax exemption

Provided that certain conditions are met, the tax rate for light vehicles (kei cars) can be lowered or made exempt when the car owner is either an injured war veteran or has a physical, intellectual, or mental disability.

However, this only applies to those owning a light vehicle. Individuals are not eligible to receive any exemption if they: own a regular sized vehicle; use the welfare taxi system provided through the Handicapped Person's Welfare Division (shogai fukushi-ka); use the Gunma Prefectural passcard.

The deadline to apply for the exemption is also Monday, June 2nd.

Required items

Please bring the following to the Fixed Assets Taxation Division (shisan zei-ka) on the 2nd floor of city hall, or the Tax Division (zeimu-ka) of any branch office:

• Disability certificate
• The vehicle tax bill
• The vehicle's registration (shaken-sho)
• The driver's license of the person mainly using the vehicle
• The My Number of the person whose name is on the vehicle tax bill
• A photo ID
