Young Carer SOS

Young Carer is a term for children who, due to various circumstances, take over adult responsibilities such as chores or taking care of other family members. This takes a heavy toll on them, as they do not have time to study or play with friends. Takasaki aims to lessen that burden via the Yong Carer SOS program.

About the program

It is a free service available to children in elementary through high school, who routinely help with chores or taking care of family members. It can be used up to two hours per day, up to twice a week.

Support provided

Supporters are dispatched in teams of 2, who visit the home and provide whatever support the children need.

• Chores (Ex: cleaning, laundry, shopping, cooking)
• Taking care of younger siblings
• Helping with elderly or disabled family members (Ex: Meals, using the bathroom, bathing, changing clothes)
