Vaccination against measles and rubella

The number of measles cases is on the rise across Japan. Receiving two doses of the measles vaccine is the most effective way to prevent infection. Check your Maternal & Child Health Handbook, and if you have not received two doses, consider getting vaccinated. 

If you develop measles symptoms, such as fever or rash, after traveling abroad please seek medical attention; call the hospital before leaving the house and follow the staff's instructions. When traveling to the hospital, try to avoid using public transportation as much as possible. 

Vaccines for children

Takasaki offers a free two-in-one vaccine for measles and rubella, which is available for children who are aged 1 or who are preparing to enter elementary school the following year. More detailed information concerning which hospitals can administer the vaccine, as well as a pre-vaccination questionnaire, were mailed to families in April. The same information is also available on the Takasaki City website. Those who wish to get vaccinated at a hospital outside of the city should inquire beforehand. 

Special exception for qualifying children

The following individuals who were unable to receive the vaccine due to a shortage of supply can still receive it free of charge until March 31, 2027:

• Those born between April 2, 2022 (Reiwa 4) and April 1, 2023 (Reiwa 5)
• Those born between April 2, 2018 (Heisei 30) and April 1, 2019 (Heisei 31)
