Daycare applications are accepted year-round

Applications for enrolling children in recognized daycare facilities are accepted year-round; the deadline to apply is the 20th of every month. Takasaki City wants to help parents feel more at ease regarding childcare accessibility, so you will hear whether your child was accepted or not in 2 weeks after applying. When you know what day you want your child to start attending daycare

If you meet the following criteria, you can apply for your child to start attending daycare on a certain day. The conditions are as follows:

• There is a set date where you will be going back to work after having been on maternity leave
• There is a set date where you will be changing to a new job
• There is a set date where you will be moving to Takasaki due to work
• Etc.

It is also possible to apply for childcare in while still pregnant or on maternity leave. If you wish to do so, please wait until after you have received your Maternal Health Booklet (boshi kenko techo).

In situations where a specific daycare facility gets a lot of applications, staff will consider various factors such as the parent/guardians' employment status in order to prioritize applicants. The daycare facility will then go through the list in order of who needs childcare the most. If requested, you can get information about what daycare facilities currently have openings.

When you do not know what day you want your child to start attending daycare

You can still apply for daycare even if you are about to begin job hunting or are unsure of when you will return to work. Those who already have a job secured will be given priority; for those who are currently searching for work, the daycare facility will consider your situation, but please note that it may take some time before they can accept your application. Whether your work or home situation changes suddenly, or you already know you want to apply in advance, the first step in applying for daycare is consulting with places that can help you. You can call the designated hotline, call the Child Care Division (hoikuka), or visit your local branch's Citizens' Division (shimin fukushi-ka) to ask questions.
